Stainless steel anchor chains clearly justify their higher price compared to galvanized chains through proven advantages in everyday anchoring. They are the preferred choice if you value reliability, cleanliness and durability on board.
Your advantages over galvanized anchor chains
-
The smooth, high-gloss or electropolished surface prevents algae and mud from sticking easily, keeping your deck and anchor locker much cleaner
-
Extremely smooth running over the anchor windlass and chain gypsy, no rust flaking, no contamination of the windlass
-
No chain pile-up in the anchor locker – the common heap formation of galvanized chains is eliminated
→ faster, quieter and safer anchor retrieval -
Significantly higher breaking load than galvanized chains at the same weight
(approx. factor 2, depending on chain, material and manufacturer) -
Premium appearance and pleasant feel
Premium material & manufacturing quality
Our high-gloss polished stainless steel anchor chains are made from DUPLEX stainless steel 1.4462 / AISI 318LN.
They are manufactured in Germany by Ketten-Wälder under the strictest quality standards and achieve a PREN value of 35.
Stainless steels with a PREN value of 33 or higher are considered seawater-resistant and show no corrosion (with regular freshwater rinsing).
Standards & compatibility
DIN 766 / ISO 4565
When choosing the correct chain size from 10 mm upwards, it is essential to know which chain gypsy your windlass is equipped with.
Please check the manufacturer’s specifications before ordering.
Available standards:
- DIN 766 (short link)
- ISO 4565
Note: 6 mm and 8 mm chains are almost identical in DIN and ISO versions and can therefore be used with both DIN and ISO gypsies.
Chain length
Need a shorter or longer chain than listed?
Contact us, we will be happy to provide a custom quote.
Electropolishing (optional)
For an additional charge, the chains can be electropolished.
This further reduces the surface micro-roughness, resulting in:
- improved corrosion resistance
- minimal dirt adhesion
- maximum service life

Warranty
-
2-year warranty on high-gloss polished chains
-
3-year warranty on electropolished chains
Technical background: PREN & CPT explained
PREN (Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number) indicates resistance to pitting corrosion.
Stainless steels with a PREN ≥ 33 are considered seawater-resistant.
CPT (Critical Pitting Temperature) defines the temperature above which pitting and crevice corrosion may occur, especially in warmer waters.
| Material | PREN-Value | CPT-Value |

| AISI 304L | 16,5 – 20,26 | ca. 10 °C |
| AISI 316 / 316L | 23,1 – 28,5 | 24 – 27,5 °C |
| AISI 318LN (1.4462) | 30,85 – 38,07 | 27,5 – 34,5 °C |
