A national flag is an important part of good seamanship and remains standard equipment on many boats. To ensure safe, visible, and proper flag display, this category includes flagpoles, flagpole holders, and related accessories for sailboats and motor boats. Traditionally, a vessel's national flag is flown at the stern. The ideal position for a flagpole is as close to the center of the stern as possible, with a slight aft angle to allow the flag to fly freely and remain clearly visible. If a centered installation is not possible, starboard side mounting is generally preferred.
