Product information "Flame-Retardant Boat Tarpaulin B1, 260 g/m², white"

The reinforced PE tarpaulin protects your boat against rain, snow and dirt during winter storage. Its flame-retardant classification according to DIN 4102-B1 makes it particularly suitable for winter storage halls, marinas and boatyards where specific requirements apply to the fire behaviour of boat covers.

The tarpaulin is made from strong woven HDPE tape fabric with an LDPE coating on both sides. The internal woven fabric provides tear resistance and dimensional stability. The sealed polyethylene coating makes the surface waterproof, protects the fabric against moisture and dirt and makes it easier to clean.

With a weight of approximately 260 g/m² and a tear strength of approximately 950 N/5 cm, the tarpaulin is suitable for covering boats in indoor and outdoor winter storage.

Reinforced edges and eyelets spaced approximately 50 cm apart allow the tarpaulin to be secured evenly. The closely spaced eyelets provide flexible tie-down options and distribute the load across multiple attachment points.

Frequently asked questions

Why might a flame-retardant tarpaulin be required for winter storage?

Some winter storage halls, marinas and boatyards require flame-retardant covering materials. Easily ignited tarpaulins can contribute to fire spreading between boats stored close together.

This tarpaulin meets building material class B1 according to DIN 4102. The operator of the storage facility decides whether the test certificate meets its specific requirements. Check the applicable winter storage or hall regulations before purchasing.

Flame-retardant does not mean fireproof or non-combustible. The tarpaulin must not come into contact with open flames, hot components or sparks.

Which size do I need for my boat?

The tarpaulin should completely cover your boat and its cover frame, with sufficient material extending down both sides. When selecting the size, consider:

  • the length and width of the area to be covered
  • the height and shape of the cover frame
  • the required coverage at the sides
  • additional material needed for securing the tarpaulin

If the anchor, bowsprit or bathing platform is also to be covered, include these areas in your measurements.

How should I secure the tarpaulin?

Secure the tarpaulin evenly over your boat using suitable tarpaulin ropes and/or elastic straps. Use as many of the eyelets spaced approximately 50 cm apart as possible. This distributes the load more evenly and reduces the strain on individual attachment points.

For the bow and stern areas, we recommend HOLDON MIDI Clips for tarpaulins. These allow you to create additional attachment points without cutting holes in the material.

At the bow, the clips can hold overlapping sections of the tarpaulin together and help it follow the shape of the boat. At the stern, you can create an easily accessible closure that can be opened and secured again when required. This provides access to the boat without removing the entire cover.

Why should I use a cover frame?

A cover frame supports the tarpaulin and creates sufficient slope for rainwater and melting snow to run off. This helps prevent water pockets and reduces the load on the tarpaulin, eyelets and tie-down points.

The tarpaulin should be tensioned firmly over the frame without placing excessive strain on individual areas. Remove larger accumulations of snow regularly.

How can I prevent condensation and mould?

The coated PE tarpaulin is not breathable, so condensation can form underneath it.

Maintain continuous airflow and do not seal the boat completely airtight. Leave suitable openings at the bow and stern or use additional ventilation elements.
